Top Ten Tuesday is brought to you by the lovely Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out the Top Ten Tuesday post for a full list of prompts!
This week’s prompt is:
Resolutions/Hopes for 2021
The prompt said these resolutions/hopes can be bookish or not, so of course mine is a mix!
- Re-read all of Skip Beat – Volume 45 comes out this year! How are there 45 volumes?! I just bought the last few volumes I didn’t own yet and restarted from Vol. 1 on Jan 1. I’ve already read the first 36 volumes! Oh no, I’m almost caught up, I’ll have to slow down, haha.
- Have at least 4 readathon weekends with BFF Ariel – Ari and I usually do the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon together, as well their Reverse Readathon and also 24-in-48, as our schedules allow. It ends up equating to around one each quarter. Usually we read with some friends, but with COVID we’ve been minimizing our risk and doing them with just the two of us.
- Weed and catalog all my owned books – I already made a good start on this by cataloging all my ebooks, my TBR carts, and my graphic novel bookshelf and my sci-fi/fantasy TBR bookcases. So far I’m at almost 1,000 books – oops. I still have … er, it’s either 2 or 3, I can’t actually remember… bookcases of romance to go through and I think that where a lot of the weeding will have to happen. And then my built-in shelves that span the entire top half of the wall across my basement. …I have a lot of books, haha. Maybe next year I’ll weed and catalog the kids’ books – that’s another 2-3 bookcases!
- Participate more in Top Ten Tuesday! – I was on a blogging hiatus for much of 2020 because I just didn’t have the spoons to put into my blog. I slowly dragged myself back in the last part of the year by mostly posting reviews, but it’s been fun to try to think of responses to the TTT prompts. I want to try to do at LEAST one TTT a month, if not participate every week. 🙂
- Scale free is the way to be – Okay, this one might be the only “resolution” I’m really making. I know that, for me, dieting and weight loss are direct express tickets to some really screwed up mental health situations. I see people making New Year’s Resolutions and later plans for their “summer beach body” and tend to get swept away in the pressure to change the way I look. I’m all for trying to eat more vegetables or move more, but my goal for this year is to not even step on the scale. 2021 is my year of finally loving myself exactly as I am, and not waiting until I can change myself to start.
- Cosplay at CONvergence! – CONvergence is the big local Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention. Last year it was postponed due to COVID and they rolled memberships over to this year. Last year I’d signed up to DM a few one-shot games, and I’m still hoping to do that this year. I also really want to cosplay Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone this year! I think she’d be such a fun character to be for a day.
- Take the kids camping – I got my spouse some camping gear for Christmas and my 6 year old expressed an interest in camping, so I’d really like to try to go this summer… but maybe just for one night, haha! I don’t think my 4 and 6 year old boys understand that camping means no iPad or Switch!! But it would be so fun to take them fishing and make some s’mores on a campfire and sleep outside in a tent for a night.
- Try out a new convention – This one is going to be very much COVID-willing, so it might need to be pushed into the next year. I love going to CONvergence every year, and I’d really like to try out another convention. I’ve been to Anime Detour in the past, but feel like I’ve sort of outgrown anime conventions. MarsCon is a local fan convention that I’ve been wanting to try out, but it’s scheduled for March and I don’t think it will be safe to go this year.
- Continue to grow my witchy roots – Late in 2020 I started to get more into reading tarot cards, and started trying to meditate more. From there I started reading more books about witchcraft and Wicca and different spiritual paths. I’m still finding what works for me – like I really vibe with crystals and don’t as much with very formal spellwork. This year I want to continue to grow spiritually.
- Read Jane Austen’s Persuasion – This is the only Austen novel (well, of the “main” ones, anyway) that I haven’t read yet. I’ve started it about half a dozen times, and THIS is the year I will finally actually finish it!
It was kind of hard to think of things, not knowing what will happen with COVID this year and the vaccine roll-out and when things will be open again.
Do you have resolutions for the new year, or things you’re hoping for? Let me know in the comments, or link me to your post!
I hope you do have the time and energy for more TTT posts (but no pressure if you don’t this year). 🙂

Oooh, it looks like maybe Paganicon is in the fall, so maybe it will actually happen this year! I’d love to go with you if you go this year. 🙂

Skip Beat! I think I’m somewhere in the high 30s and need to catch up on those, too. Love that manga!

I was reading scanlations for a while so I actually have no idea where I left off, haha. But I think it was somewhere in the high 30’s too. I love that they’re releasing 3-in-1 volumes, so it’s only about $15 for 3 volumes vs buying them all separately. My wallet is very thankful!

Hard same. What kind of conventions do you go to?

We have one in the UK every year, YALC in London, which is basically like a big YA book convention and there’s loads of author signings, and panels, and agent talks, and it’s always super fun!

I’ve wanted to go through and catalog all my books for a long time, but I just have way too many. It would take too long. Good on you for doing yours, though! I bet it will feel great to have them all nice and organized.
Happy TTT!

I’m at just over 1k books catalogued, and I haven’t even started on my big built-in wall shelves or my romance TBR ones. OOPS. I thought about getting rid of some books but then… why? It makes me happy to be surrounded by books! I’ve found taking pictures of one shelf (just a shelf, not the whole case!) per day and then using the photo to log them into a spreadsheet is helping me slowly but surely get through cataloguing them. 🙂

These are all amazing goals! I Definitely agree that going “scale free” is a more healthy way to be. I would rather focus on how I feel, and less on a number.
I am also on a witchy journey! I started reading tarot last year and have been exploring different paths to see if any of them resonate with me. I’m more drawn to traditional witchcraft practices, but I love reading about all the different ways that people come to this path.

Hooray for witchy journeys! 🙂 I thought about posting more about my witchy life here, but my blog skews so bookish I’m not sure if it would be welcome? And then of course I thought about starting a new blog, but there’s just no way I can keep up with two!! ACK!

I totally understand that concern. I tried doing a separate blog, but it was definitely too much to handle. This is your blog, and your journey. I think you should post whatever you want. I wish more book bloggers would share other parts of their lives.

I love the witchy journey resolution! I found so much peace in candles and crystals last year, and I’d love to continue my own witchy journey, too 🙂

I love crystals so much! I’ve got a few books about crystal magic on my TBR, maybe I’ll review them here since it seems like a lot of folks are interested. 🙂

I think that’s a great idea! I’d definitely be interested in a review 🙂

#3 sounds like an awesome goal – I did it once 8 years ago and it’s definitely time to do it again, since I did not keep up with updating the catalog AT ALL. It was a blast doing it, though. Hope to see more of you on TTT too — this was a lot of fun to read.
#10 is a goal I should make, too — Persuasion is also the only one *I* haven’t read.

I’ve watched movie versions of Persuasion and it’s so good – why haven’t we read the book?!
I’m trying to keep on top of cataloguing by logging all the books that I get as I get them and… I’m not sure I like how eye-opening it is to how fast I accumulate books, haha!

Well I’m on Volume 37 and still waiting… They’ve each admitted internally at least that they’re in LURVE with the other person.

Also, my goal for most of 2020 was also to read persuasion.. and I’m still only 1/2 way thru 😦
