We Need A Little Christmas! (2019 Christmas Songs Book Tag)

Jana @ The Artsy Reader Girl made this super cute tag, and as a lover of both books AND Christmas carols I knew I needed to get in on it. 😉

Like Jana, I’m also limited my list to only books I’ve read in 2019. As I’ve read 160+ books so far this year, that still gives me plenty to choose from… haha! You can use just books you read this year, or any books you’ve read!

1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.
OOOH, this is hard! I think I’ll have to go with Grace and Sebastian from My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh. (But fave of all time is still Josh and Lucy from Sally Thorne’s The Hating Game)

2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).
Emily in Jen DeLuca’s Well Met has relocated home for the summer to help her injured sister while she recovers from an accident. (One of my favorite books I read this year, too!)

3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).
Definitely Can’t Escape Love by Alyssa Cole – this entire series is FIRE.

4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?
I made the mistake of teasing my friend Annie by picking up her copy of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern when she set it down, and read all of the first ONE page, and now I need this book to live.

5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?
Work For It by Talia Hibbert. I basically needed to take a day to sob and tape my heart back together after reading this before I could go write a review, and even then my review is a hot mess. Here’s a little example of my review:

“I am pretty sure I literally felt my heart break while reading this, book only it was sort of on the rightish side of my chest instead of the leftish. Is there a phantom emotional heart over there as a counterpart to the physical one? This is why I hate when people use the work literally incorrectly, because when I say I LITERALLY felt something break in my chest, I mean it. There was a physical sort of tearing pain in my chest as I gasped in a tear-choked breath and tried to remind myself that these men aren’t real, it’s OK, I’m OK, it’s alllll gonna be oooookaaaaaay. …Good lord, I’m about to start crying just trying to write this review.”

Guys, this book MADE ME CRY WHILE WRITING MY REVIEW. The book was OVER and it was still making me cry. That being said, go read it so you, too, can have a heart that’s shattered like a glass ornament after my 3 year old gets ahold of it.

6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.
I love to read Christmas rom-coms, especially ones where people are brining home a fake boyfriend/girlfriend/fiance for the holidays.

7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.
I’m going to fudge this one a bit and say the Fake Boyfriend series by Eden Finley (even though the series is longer than three books…) I read the first four books one after the other in the span of about 5 days.

8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.
Kitty Fairwell from Augustine Lang’s A Good Kiss is Hard to Find. She seems like she’d be up for board games or for hot chocolate and quiet reading time, and would be a cheerful companion to be stuck with. I wouldn’t be opposed to Will and John being there either. 😉

9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.
I hate this questions because I don’t like to be mean! For me this year, it was A Little Light Mischief by Cat Sebastian. Cat is one of my favorite authors and I was super looking forward to this f/f romance, but I just didn’t feel the chemistry/tension between Molly and Alice in this one.

10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.
The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett looks SO pretty.

AND for the bonus round I’m going to add my favorite Christmas carol:

BONUS: “We Need A Little Christmas”: A book that cheered you up or made you laugh.
Ari and I buddy-read The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa at my readathon birthday weekend (after DNFing a really disappointing book we tried to buddy read first) and it was HILARIOUS. One of us would cackle madly, and a minute later the other would laugh and there’d be a little exchange of “are you at the such-and-such part?”, and it was about the most fun I’ve ever had reading a book.

  1. Thanks for participating in the tag! I totally agree that Josh and Lucy from The Hating Game are amazing. I think they might be my favorite couple, too! My Fake Rake has been on my “to read next” list for a while now. I’m going to read it right after Christmas! I’ve been SO excited about it! Well Met is on my list as well, and I think I need to bump that one up because I remember seeing how much you were loving it on Twitter. 🙂 And I love fake romances during the holidays, too! I need to pay attention to what you read more because we have way similar tastes. Are we friends on Goodreads!?
