Summary

Hadley Donavan can’t believe she has to go home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. She’s gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least her bestie agreed he’d man up and help. But then instead of her best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport.

If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst―even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.

Ten times worse? Hadley’s buffer was supposed to be there to keep her away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs them up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? She’s in. She can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, their bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

THIS BOOK. This book has all the tropes – fake relationship, enemies to lovers, best friend’s sibling, there’s only one bed… And they’re all done so well it’s amazing and I CANNOT EVEN. I am dead, this book has killed me (in the very best ways). Seriously, I just finished it and it was so good that I’m struggling to put words in some sort of sense-making order to write this review, beyond IT’S SO GOOD!

I love the chemistry between Hadley and Will, especially how they continue to soften towards one another and then something happens that gets their hackles back up. But their chemistry is UNDENIABLE to they just keep falling back into it deeper. Will thinks Hadley is a gold digger who is trying to entrap his brother for his money, so he’s being a “good brother” and trying to drive her away to save his brother, Web. Hadley has no sexual/romantic/monetary interest in her BFF Web, but his twin brother (who looks just like her platonic BFF but someone on Will it’s HOT) drives her up the wall. They both have some pretty severe damage from their pasts that they let color their perceptions and decisions, and both need to face their pasts, finally process them, and learn from them. There’s really great and organic personal journies in this book, as well as the relationship development of the main characters.

The side characters are also AMAZING. I adore PawPaw (and his nursing home girlfriends!!). Hadley’s whole family is great, and I love their whole game night tradition. To me, one of the signs of a really great book is having a community of side and background characters that seem just as real and genuine as the main characters, and Avery Flynn pulls it off flawlessly. This is a standalone romance novel, but I’m really hoping we get a book for Web as well! And one for Hadley’s sister Adalyn too!

A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
